Server-based virus scanning and powerful spam control

emScan is an enhancement to our email service powered by Postini, which adds server-based virus protection plus powerful spam filtering.

Virus protection
emScan will scan all of your email for viruses before it is delivered to your inbox. If a known computer virus is detected, you will be sent a notice that a virus has been found and quarantined. We still recommend that you have up-to-date virus protection software on your PC. emScan cannot scan for viruses transmitted in other ways, such as by diskette; but, it can provide an important first line of defense against viruses transmitted via email.

Spam filtering
emScan can also significantly reduce the amount of spam delivered to your inbox. emScan calculates how likely it is that any incoming email is spam based on the message content, and then quarantines any suspected junk mail. No email filtering service can catch all spam, but emScan can greatly reduce the time that you spend sorting through unwanted email.

You are in control
Perhaps the greatest benefit of emScan is the new sense of control you will feel. You can determine how aggressive you want emScan to be when searching for spam, down to which specific categories to filter and how aggressive to be in each category (such as "sexually explicit", "get rich quick", and "special offers"). You can even set up your own "allow and block" lists to always accept or deny email from individual addresses or entire domains.

Best of all, you can safely view all quarantined messages from your own emScan Message Center, where you will see first hand the junk mail and viruses emScan has blocked from your inbox. With emScan, you have access to all quarantined email and you can determine what messages or senders, if any, are allowed through.

Private and Secure
The emScan services are private and secure. The junk email and virus protection screening is an automated process. Nobody has access to your email except you. Your email is not censored, and you have control over the filter settings.

When your emScan service is activated, you will be sent a Welcome Message with explicit instructions on how to access your Message Center. The Welcome Message will include a temporary password which you must change the first time you log in. If you like, you can make your new password the same as your email account, so that you do not need to remember two passwords.
